After asking around, I've compiled a list of stores/businesses on Route 12A that are currently closed. Please let me know if there is a change to report in these status listings. I'm hoping that this will happen as more stores clean up and reopen, but it is likely to be several weeks or months before this happens completely. Special thanks to Lebanon City Councilor Karen Liot Hill for her quick response to my queries, the City of Lebanon, the Lebanon Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Upper Valley facebook group.
See how you can use your savvy shopping skills to assist in the #VTresponse efforts!

20 more things to say about this:
The name of the eyeglasses store in kmart plaza is Pro-Optical...
I was just out there yesterday. Couldn't believe my eyes! The high water/mud mark was just shocking, and so many businesses closed. I worry for the employees more than the shoppers. Hope things can reopen soon.
@ Vaughn - Thanks, I've updated the post with correct store name.
@ Anonymous - I was in West Leb on Wednesday night to pick up some medicine at Walgreens and drove down the strip and was just amazed. The silt in the air and on trees, in parking lots - I can only imagine what the clean up in so many of those businesses will be like. I agree that the employees of these businesses, and their families, will need our help to make it through this tough time.
Glad to see that the NH Employment Security office in Lebanon has postponed the closing of that office to September 9 (rather than Sept. 2) so that they will be able to help people dealing with the aftermath of the hurricane.
Is the laundromat still open in the K-Mart plaza?
The 12A Price Chopper is open. It's a little disorganized, but I think that's due to the renovation rather than the flood.
When I was in West Leb on Friday night, it looks liked the laundromat (Kleen) was open - lights were on, cars nearby. Will try to confirm by phone call today, and then will update the list in the post.
@ Matthew - Thanks, I agree with your note about Price Chopper! I was shopping there on Saturday night before the storm and it was a bit of a mess due to renovations.
I heard that JCPenney might not be reopening at all, only the salon. They haven't been able to compete with Kohls and are thinking about just focusing on online sales. I hope this isn't true. I love JCPenney.
@DW - I've heard similar stories, and hoping that it's just rumors. There are regular sales and offers at JC Penney that I enjoyed. It will be a loss to the area in both employment and shopping options without this store.
This is a very helpful list. I am so sorry to hear about all the devastation from IRENE. One store not mentioned is B.J's I am not familiar with all the Plaza names, so you might have included it there. Thanks again for doing this great public service
@wolfden: Bj is mentioned above. It's the 9th listing under OPEN STORES ..
Thanks everyone for your continued help and questions. I'll continue to update the list with any changes that I either notice personally or get info about here on on the Kids Meal Crowd facebook page.
This is a great service that you have and will continue to provide. I'm sure we will all continue to do our part as well.
Do they know when Pro-Optical will be opening again? There is nothing on their website about the closure from the flood either?
I am a business owner who was unaffected by this tradgedy, one of the closed businesses is my competitor and my heart goes out to the owners and their emloyees. What a mess, it made me sad because a business is your "baby" you watch it grow and change. I am grateful that no lives were lost.
Not sure about the re-open plans for Pro-Optical. Sorry!
Updating the post with a few bits of info from Upper Valley facebook group and snippets from the Sunday Valley News today (9/11/11). Also plan to copy the list portion as a "page" here on the blog that you can access directly under the blog header.
Hi there,
North Country Eye Care Associates is in the Kmart Shopping Plaza. My friend owns Sunshine Eyewear in Lebanon. She was not affected by the flood, however, was gracious enough to let Dr. Stegen continue to see his patients in her Lebanon Office.
Though Dr. Stegen's practice is associated with her competitor, she felt the need to put the patients eye care interest ahead of local competition. Way to go Sonja! Talk about a community coming together...
Just a quick note to let folks know that many of the stores impacted have re-opened, with iParty and Maurice's slated to be open in December. The list in this post has been updated. I'm not sure about Pro-Optical, does anyone know what their status is? Thanks for your support and I hope that you will continue to take advantage of the wonderful businesses this holiday season - both the large box stores and the small businesses and shops.
Pro-optical (now known as North Country Eye Care Associates) is still not open as far as I know. I've also heard rumors that Kmart will not reopen until possibly March 2012.
