It's my distinct pleasure to feature the wonderful work of an old friend from my high school days in VT as the first giveaway.  I was so happy to reconnect with Monica on Facebook.  Monica is the creative and kind owner of Blackberry Hill Designs, which is located in South Berwick, Maine.


My daughter Sydney recently celebrated her 9th birthday and I wanted to give her a gift that she would really treasure.  What she really wants is another dog to join our family, but it's not going to happen...at least right now.  Sydney, however, had told me that "the dog she sees in her dreams is a little Yorkie".  I couldn't give her the real thing, so I asked Monica to customize a pendant for Sydney that would include a cute little Yorkie (minus the house training and bags of puppy chow).  This is what what we received.  Isn't that Yorkie the cutest thing ever?  The second was a monogram, presented so nicely on a sheer length of ribbon.  Sydney was totally impressed and I apparently am the coolest mom ever.  Bonus.

One of the many things that I absolutely love about these pieces are the recycled materials used.  The Yorkie pendant base is actually a recycled wooden scrabble tile!  Isn't that fabulous?  It was the perfect size.  The "S" pendant was crafted from a recycled typewriter key.  Check out the depth of the pieces, without being bulky or heavy:

And although Sydney wanted to use these as pendants, it could easily be made into a really unique zipper pull, bracelet, earring or charm.  Think about customizing it for a special person in your life (including men!) to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, holidays or other special events.  And if you are not feeling creative, check out some of the handcrafted items Monica already has in stock for you!
