I recently found out that another great scrapbook store - Amandalinz in Amherst, NH - is closing its doors on Saturday, Feb. 7th at noon. I always enjoyed their customer service and booth at the Creating Keepsakes Conventions in Manchester, NH and I am saddened to see local scrapbook stores shut down. There is something about being able to go into a store and ask advice or put your hands physically on the products that I've always enjoyed. And local design teams are truly motivating, local crops are among the best kind of Girls Night Out.
How is the economy impacting hobbies like papercrafting and scrapbooking? I know lots of people (myself included) are moving more towards digital scrapbooking and maybe away from the traditional paper scrapbooking. For me, I want to transition more into digital scrapbooking due to time and technology reasons. But I have to say I still have a good amount of paper scrapbook supplies that could be better organized and utilized. But in general, I have less "fun money" to spend on things like scrapbooking. As a matter of fact, Creative Memories is having a bankruptcy hearing today. There is a MN Public Radio piece linked there is a very interesting listen.
So, I just wanted to pass along the info. If you are looking for a great excuse to go on a road trip -- check out the liquidation sale. There will be some great giveaways as well, you can check them out here. The owners have been great about sending updates via email, just FYI. Hours look to be limited to 10 am - 5 pm, Mon - Sat (closed Sun). Directions are posted on their website.
1 more things to say about this:
It is sad to see small businesses become victims of the economy, which is happening with frequency where I live as well. It is certainly discouraging to those creative and courageous enough to start their own business, and a bummer for those of us who enjoy shopping at a smaller hometown store where they know your name.
