I can't believe I am not totally done sorting out boxes from our move yet! But we are moving forward with the yard sale as planned this Saturday. The date was firm, as it is the Town Wide Yard Sale and we wanted to have that extra advertising and traffic through town. Let's hope it translates into both our decluttering and earning some extra money goals!
Here's what I posted to Craigslist:
We recently moved into a new home and have found that we have just too much stuff! Lots of great deals to be had, and we are part of the Enfield, NH Town Wide Yard Sale so there will be lots of sales happening around town – worth a trip!None of this stuff comes back in the house, so NO REASONABLE OFFER REFUSED.Sending someone off to college? Need new toys for a child care center or playgroup? Looking for awesome scrapbooking supply deals? Grandchildren need some extra clothes for when they visit? Want a head start on your Christmas or Back to School shopping? Then, this is THE SALE you'll want to be at!
Saturday, July 19. I will begin setting up at 8 AM - any earlier than that and we will not be ready. Sale begins at 9 AM, early birds pay double.
Be Green BYOB specials – Bring Your Own canvas/store shopping Bag and fill it to the top with WHATEVER you can fit for $5! Bring Your Own Box and fill it to the top for only $10! Look for my signs and balloons, and we will be listed on the Town Wide Yard Sale map available from the Mascoma Lionness group at Huse Park in the village.
July 19 @ 9 AM to 2 PM on xxxxx Drive in Enfield, NH. In the Upper Valley region, near Lebanon, Hanover, Canaan, White River Junction. Easy to find, accessible from I-89 and I-91.
I am also thinking of taking out a newspaper classified ad for Thursday-Friday-Saturday. What do you think? This is the first yard sale I've tried to pull off, do you have any advice for me? I could use all the help I can get! LOL

5 more things to say about this:
Don't pay for a newspaper ad,especially if you are part of town wide tag sale
Stick to your motto of no reasonable offer refused. If you goal is to reduce your clutter and gain some excess cash, just remember that. Better to get rid of it for 50c instead of thinking the 75c buyer 'may' come by,
good luck
@ anon -- great advice! I am totally willing to bargain, as reducing the clutter is essential for my family...and for me personally. To move forward, I realize that we have to let go of the past.
One of the ways I wanted to encourage people to clean me out was to offer the flat rate bag or box rate. For some people, that will be an awesome deal. I know it won't be the right thing for everyone, but I wanted to offer something like that.
thanks again for the comment, I appreciate it!
I had a minimally successful yardsale earlier this year. I had lots of great clothing, nice stuff I would have bought, but I think 5 pieces got sold. Because I priced them too high. Even after I marked things down by 50%, people still weren't buying. I wish I had thought to post a no reasonable offer refused sign. I have given it all away via freecycle and am quite happy with it. In the end the stuff is out of our house and is being put to good use. I just wish I could have raised more money for my Breast Cancer walk....but lesson learned.
The $5 a bag idea is awesome. I wish I had thought of that.
I love you $5 bag and $10 box idea. When I was a kid (granted, this was 25 years ago...) we had a sale where we put up a huge sign saying "everything costs 10 cents" We had barely anything left at the end of the day. Sometimes you go to a garage sale and you can tell that the purpose of the sale is to make money. Other times you can tell that the purpose is to get rid of stuff. Both are fine reasons to have a garage sale, but the latter usually ends up with less stuff at the end of the day. If decluttering is the goal, you might consider putting up a sign near the end of the day that says "everything's free" Otherwise you might end up hauling stuff to the thrift store and giving it to them for free... might as well have someone else take it away for you!
@ nicole and frugalbabe -- the $5 bag and $10 box offers were the hits of the day. Still have WAAAY too much left over though. We were steady and made a little cash (just over $150), and now we are getting the rest ready for a monster donation to the local charity-benefit thrift shop and/or freecycle. Will be sure to take some pics of the piles before we get rid of them to prove how good it feels to get rid of the clutter!!!
