I have a confession...

Hi, my name is Danielle and I have a tween in the house.

My eldest child and only daughter is 8 years old and for the last year or so, she has morphed from the Disney Princess lover to one of those girls who love Disney TV's Hannah Montana, High School Musical, her MP3 player and Radio Disney.  I don't think there is anything wrong with this, but it signifies a turning point in our family, and I suppose in our mother-daughter relationship as well.

Is it wrong to wonder where the little girl has gone?  She stills loves all things animal, but her new favorite show to watch is TLC's What Not to Wear.  I asked her why today, she said "Mom, it's all about the fashion!" and "I really do learn a lot of tips".  Yikes...all I need are fashion tips from the tween in our midst!  (although if she figured out how to get my on that show so I could get a makeover and get a new wardrobe with the help of Stacey & Clinton I would totally be into it!  LOL)

I love the young woman that my daughter is becoming -- she is creative, empathetic, helpful and bright.  But I am scared to death of the conversations I know are coming soon.  Right now, I will focus on giving her the information and support she needs and not rush her.  Let's enjoy making those smoothies, walking the dog together as a family and putting up the swing set here at the new house.  Training bras and boy talk can wait...for now.

Have any advice for me?  How have you weathered transitional periods in your child's development?
